That Was Fun :)

There was some very intense piecing going on in my sewing room yesterday and it was a blast! I decided to join in with the New Year's Day mystery quilt-along over at QuiltBug - Scrappy Friends. I had read about it that morning on Kathy's blog and I thought it sounded fun. This was the first time I have ever participated in something like this and I am glad that I did. If you click on the link to Kathy's blog you can check out her version of the mystery quilt.

The clues were given out hourly but of course I was already behind before it even started. It did seem to take me quite a bit of time to decide on which fabrics to use. I finally decided that I would work with children's fabric and then I had to fuss with which and what. :) The quilt pattern calls for fat quarters but I selected my fabrics from yardage and in a way I am glad that I did. It allowed me to cut a few extra squares of some of the fabrics. My only hesitation with this design is that I need more variety in my fabrics. I kept bumping same fabrics together and I don't like that. So unpicking happened and I used some of those extra fabric squares to help with that. I also had to do some unpicking when it came to the friendship stars.  I didn't have all of the star points going in the correct direction. :(

So, I didn't quite get the quilt top finished - I still need to add some borders but I will do that today. All in all I loved participating and I am pretty happy with the results so I plan to join in again next year.

It's fabulous Ellen! Way to go! We had the same challenge with not enough variety to make sure that same fabrics didn't touch, but eventually we gave up on that!! LOl
