New Year's Day mystery quilt-along over at QuiltBug - Scrappy Friends. I had read about it that morning on Kathy's blog and I thought it sounded fun. This was the first time I have ever participated in something like this and I am glad that I did. If you click on the link to Kathy's blog you can check out her version of the mystery quilt.
The clues were given out hourly but of course I was already behind before it even started. It did seem to take me quite a bit of time to decide on which fabrics to use. I finally decided that I would work with children's fabric and then I had to fuss with which and what. :) The quilt pattern calls for fat quarters but I selected my fabrics from yardage and in a way I am glad that I did. It allowed me to cut a few extra squares of some of the fabrics. My only hesitation with this design is that I need more variety in my fabrics. I kept bumping same fabrics together and I don't like that. So unpicking happened and I used some of those extra fabric squares to help with that. I also had to do some unpicking when it came to the friendship stars. I didn't have all of the star points going in the correct direction. :(
So, I didn't quite get the quilt top finished - I still need to add some borders but I will do that today. All in all I loved participating and I am pretty happy with the results so I plan to join in again next year.
